The Five Steps |
OVERVIEW
For an organization to achieve this goal and realize significant and lasting improvements from business and process redesigns, a broad and coordinated effort is necessary.
This means increased cross-functional communication and more decision making at lower levels, where the processes take place. But how do you get everyone to understand the relationship between what they do and what the right work should be? How do you get your employees to think like business owners?
The answer is to get them involved! The MINI-
VALUE-ADDED ANALYSIS PROCESS (VAP) WORKSHOP is designed to do just that. The Mini-VAP is a 20 hour workshop that helps your employees identify and focus on the "right work" and starts them on the road to becoming "business people".
The Mini-VAP Workshop may be based on your core processes, a company project or a specific area of the business that needs additional focus. With prior notification, we can tailor a workshop to your specific needs.
All workshops take the following basic steps to achieve productivity improvement:

THE FIVE STEPS
VAP includes the following steps to achieve productivity improvement:
STEP 1 - SYSTEM ANALYSIS -
The process of analyzing your company's business and process systems. Working with ALL of your personnel, we help them understand the interdependencies of these systems. With this basic understanding, they quickly realize that each and every system has inherent waste. Through a series of exercises, we take your personnel to a point where they are able to analyze these systems and identify these wastes.
STEP 2 - DISCOVERY -
The identification of Options that eliminate Wastes and Improve System Processes. Once your personnel have discovered where waste exists in the system, controlling and eliminating wastes means an increase in profit margins, which ultimately benefits all members of the organization. They learn quick methods for estimating the size of the various wastes and determining which wastes are cost effective to eliminate. Throughout the process of discovery, we guide the organization in applying the various tools that can be used to control, minimize and eliminate these numerous wastes.
STEP 3 -
DECISION
- The coordination
of company wide Action Plans. After determining what wastes are most cost effective to eliminate, project teams carry out systematic analysis and planning. Armed with the data and their expert knowledge of the processes, the teams develop presentations on the various wastes. Each presentation is made before an executive committee that decides which projects are relevant to the overall company mission and will be implemented. At this point, company personnel have been exposed to the concepts of system analysis, waste identification, Mission Relevancy and Cost/Benefits. Going forward, they utilize these concepts to improve individual and organizational productivity.
STEP 4 -
ACTION -
The focusing of Action Teams in the Implementation of a "War on Wastes". Once the projects are clearly identified, Action Teams (whose members are employees identified as having the necessary skills) are established to carry the project through to completion. We work closely with the teams, teaching various methods to eliminate wastes. Tools to improve productivity are now utilized in the active "War on Waste". One of the tools that could be used is process measurement or a simplified statistical process control (SPC). Other tools are the Cost/ Benefit analysis and the 80/20 Rule. With these tools and many more at their disposal, Action Teams are poised for Continuous Improvement!
